OK To start mysqld at boot time you have to copy support-files/mysql.server to the right place for your system PLEASE REMEMBER TO SET A PASSWORD FOR THE My SQL root USER !

To do so, start the server, then issue the following commands: /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password' /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h ebony.nz password 'new-password' Alternatively you can run: /usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation which will also give you the option of removing the test databases and anonymous user created by default.

This week's post is a technical workaround, from Opsview Community edition user Matthew White, for anyone experiencing an ODW_Status Warning in Opsview due to heavy server load. For a while I have been seeing a daily ODW_STATUS_WARNING about no updates since on my master opsview server.

I was 90% sure this was due to the load that I put on the server (load average sits around 6 and goes up to 13 at certain times of the day) but still got bored of running cleanup_import and then import_runtime -i 1.

I am in the process of installing a number of Juniper EX2200, EX3200 and EX4200 switches for a client and as part of the setup need to be able to monitor the switches for any alarms (eg Switch Management interface down or Switch booted from Backup Partition) and have them dealt with accordingly.

Having a look at the SNMP OID tree for the EX switches I came across the following useful table have used the jnx Red Alarm Count and jnx Yellow Alarm Count oid values as basic Opsview SNMP Service Checks to give me an initial overview but in the long term will be looking to combine this into a full service check script that can be used to check a number of different things.

Since changing that I seem to have had no further re-occurrences of the No update prompt.
